I have a family member visiting in a couple of months, and I'm looking for a place for her to stay. I'd have her stay at my place, but my room is tiny, and the other room is the kitchen. As far as I've seen in this area, there's the Hamilton hotel, and a bunch of yeogwans. Does anyone know of a midrange hotel in the area?
I'm looking for something that's not as expensive as the Hamilton but isn't a cheap, hole in the wall. Something around 50-90,000 per night. Anyone know of any hidden hotels in the area? |

you could try Gaya hotel near Namyeong station. My mum stayed there when she visited. It's around 55,000-60,000 a night I think. |

Yes, hotel D'oro. Behind Helios. It's really nice and clean at reasonably priced at 66,000 incl. of tax. |

Thanks a bunch. I'll go and check it out tomorrow. I didn't want to put her up in the Seoul Motel or some other roach infested hole. Hotel D'oro sounds great and within walking distance of my place. |

May i change the direction of this thread...
Since you live near the Itaewon area, could you recommend a good lively club/pub/bar for Friday nights in Itaewon?
I know about Geckos and the Wolfhound, but found them to be half empty last Friday. I also know about that club up the alleyway from KFC, the one where you have to go down the stairs on the lefthand side of the alley to get in. But that was charging a 10,000 entry fee so i didn't go in. I also know about Helios although ive never been inside....I could see from the street that it just seemed to have people out at the balcony but empty inside.
I'm just looking for a BUSY and lively place for a Friday night in Itaewon. I don't mind if the music is hiphop which i dislike, just as long as there's plenty of native English teachers there.
Since you live near the area, i though you might have insider knowledge?... |

try Stompers at the top of Hooker Hill; the later you go the louder it gets. |

In Itaewon, I have two favorite bars. They're both in the same building. One is Bar Nana, the other is Manila. Bar Nana is good for a more relaxed drinking/dancing/socializing atmosphere. Manila is great if you like Karaoke. It's usually fairly full, but not packed and has a good mix of people.
For purely western haunts, I recommend going up and over to haebangchon near the noksapyeong subway station. Try Phillies or Ssen. It's not too far from Itaewon. Maybe a 15 minute walk. |
