Alright, I think I'm going to start getting in touch with recruiters soon...but I really need to decide where I want to live first. Oh, and I'm going to go the PS route, if it matters.
1) I want to learn Korean. I was a student of Japanese in college, and Korean is next on my "list". With this in mind, I want to be somewhere where I can't rely on English all the time. Yeah, it'll make my life hard at first, but it'll be better for me if I can get past that.
2) I don't want to be in a big city. It would be nice if I could venture to one once or twice a month on weekends though.
3) I think most of my hobbies are things I could do anywhere...but I think it would be fun to start a rock band (or just jam around) with some people. Is this something I could do just about anywhere?
Right...I can't think of any other specifics right now. Feel free to ask me questions though, that'll probably work better anyway. Thanks! |

ChungcheongBuk-Do. The biggest city is 600'000, which is miniscule by Korean standards. The province is mostly rural, yet the furthest you can be from Seoul is a 2 hour bus trip. If you work for EPIK, they'll pay you an extra 100'000won rural living bonus, which is somewhat ironic since it's quite a bit cheaper to live here than it is in a big city.
EDIT: The band thing might be a bit of an issue. There's near-zero music scene in my town of 200'000. Apparently Cheongju (600'000) has a bit of one. |

| Korea is quite small. You can get to a big city fairly easily from anywhere. I suggest you just tell the recruiter or whoever that you don't want to be in a big city and let them make suggestions. Put some thought into just how rural you are willing to go. |

Cheongju has an awesome music scene, second in the entire country only to Seoul. But it is kind of inconvenient.
I recommend a satellite city of Seoul, like Anyang or Suwon. |

Don't go too native! Being in the countryside in Korea is different than the same in any other country. You WILL be isolated! My advice would be to live in an area not too far from Seoul so you could visit anytime you want. Believe me, you'll have no problem finding people who can only converse to you in Korean even within Seoul.
