When will people learn that looks and singing ability are uncorrelated?

The reactions of the crowd before and after she opens her mouth are priceless. |

the young, pretty, blond panelist said, "Everyone was against you!" Isn't that a nice thing to say to someone! |

Amanda Holden, bit part actress but mostly famous cos she had an affair on her celeb husband- Les Dennis - with another famous comedy actor - neil morrissey.
Les and her got back together then he went on celeb big brother and she pretty much left him when he was on it, never even turned up for his eviction night....classy bird |

so much for 50 being the new 40...... looks like 48 is the new 68, at least for her..... but, hey, if it was still 1959, she'd be a star! |

Talented Ugly Person Baffles World
Quote: |
The success of singer Susan Boyle on the reality show Britain's Got Talent has caused both television networks and their viewers to reconsider the intrinsic value of ugly people, media experts say.
In living rooms around the world as well as in the executive suites of media giants, those exposed to the Susan Boyle phenomenon are grappling with the paradox - thought impossible up until now - that an ugly person could be talented.
In New York, NBC chief Jeff Zucker confirmed that his network was "seriously considering" lifting its official ban against featuring unattractive people on the air.
"For years, the letters NBC have stood for 'No Butt-ugly Characters,'" Mr. Zucker said. "We're beginning to re-think that."
Jenifer Genterson, a news anchor from Abilene, Texas, is just one of a chorus of beautiful TV talking heads who have been startled and inspired by the surprising presence of talent in an ugly person.
"In the TV business, we're told that beauty is everything," Ms. Genterson said. "But Susan Boyle has shown us that ugly people have the right to live, too."
But Professor David Logsdon, who studies the rare occurrences of ugly people in the media at the University of Minnesota's School of Communications, warns that the isolated example of Ms. Boyle may give ugly people around the world too much hope.
"The fact is, only one in a million ugly people will ever get on TV," said Professor Logsdon. "Most of them will wind up in academia."

Extremely talented, yes. But dull. I'm not about to be putting sentimental Broadway(?) pap on my Zune. Which is sort of the thing. I prefer a more raw, awkward sound anyway. |

I wasn't that impressed. Her singing was alright, but nothing better than what you'd hear at a community theater, and I've heard much better in a community theater. Her mid-range was pretty good, but all of her high or long notes were amateur at best. For example, when she would sing a diphthong, she'd cut to the second half way too early which made the notes sound squeezed and nasally.
I guess everyone was just surprised that someone who isn't hot could sing on key. |

The saddest thing is that this woman and the TV show made the front page on CNN. |

I think she is fantastic - and a I think it is about time people realized that some older can be talented - and you don't have to be a size 0 and blond!
And the young kid who is singing is great too.
As someone who is a bit older - I get so tired of being ignored for job interviews and such.
So maybe this will change some peoples views. |

Is the real reason that she has her 15 minutes of fame going due to her talent, or the hype machine behind Simon Whathisname's singing contests? Cuz, that's what they are, dontchaknow....
sorry, slipped into 1950s man for a second... easy to do in this tv climate... anyone got a tv dinner and some aluminum siding they want to sell me? |
