I left the rok in 1998, so I know that there have been a lot of changes just by reading the forums. I was thinking I could make a list of major changes that affect teachers and their day to day lives.
The most significant improvement that stands out is the internet and availability of high speed services. In 98 there were a few internet cafes here and there but the term pc bang had not yet been coined (I think).
What other major changes have made your life different since then? I'm looking for the veterans to respond...mysterios delta rays & Erzprof that means you too prease....
Thanks

So what are you doing these days? Are you one of those "failures at life" that couldn't find a job we all hear about? Due to your Korean teaching experience, of course!
Hoping for a positive note. |

No, I work in IT & I enjoy doing tech stuff...(but I really want to export commodities to Asian countries) My wife makes more than I do though. She works for a Korean company.

The net access...like you said...it blows me away! I used to use Lynx to read Dave's...
No more riots! Or at least, not the two-a-week we used to get. |

Everytime I talk to my wife about Korea she throws in "They have much more in Korea available to foreigners than when you were there" line. Is that true? Are there really that manymore things available from home now than there were in the late 90's?

| Greater access to ATMs both in terms of the English service option and the ability to use foreign cards. (But that's just since 2001). |

More western chains than in 1995. I swear to you, I almost had an orgasm when I first saw the subway stations in Itaewon. Can't wait for the Gwangju subway to open up. Been sitting in construction traffic since 1996. Never been to Wal-Mart in Korea. Peanut butter has "always" been available at Big Mart. |

A taxi fare started at 1000W back then.
Most people still used Beepers. They were called "BP's".
Smokes were 1200w - 1400W.
Whatever happened to the Reggae Pub in Itaewon??? |

| There's a Reggae Bar there now but it's not the same one. I think it's been open for a year or so. |
