South Korea, in particular, resists the reclassification because it could give the North greater leverage in negotiations. |
They'll never use 'em though. |

Considering the state of their missile program I doubt they have any capability to deliver those nukes anywhere, even South Korea. The artillery is what would destroy Seoul. |

That would be interesting. A race between North Korean artillery and counter battery fire from the South.
Much of the artillery can reach Northern Seoul only.

I found this interesting to say the least. |

30-40 km from N. Korea border, can artillery travel that far with accuracy?
I've read that they probably don't have nuclear capabliites yet but that the Dear Leader got scared when George Bush declared North Korea as part of the Axis of Evil.
So after the U.S. invaded Iraq, Kim Jong Il thought he might be next and ramped up the threats and nuclear talk. |

Tubes, no. Rockets, yes. Accuracy isn't important when there's a target as big as Seoul. They could put about a quarter million rounds into the Seoul area per hour (estimated). Of course if they did target Seoul then the American and Korean ground forces would clean up their armies all the faster. And North Korea would end up looking much like Germany circa 1945. |

People. No worry. The North will NOT attack the South as they want, need, and do receive economic help from the South. Expect better change when the old wicked dictator of the North crokes. They know they can't invade and take it nor would the North Korean people want to do that as the South is also their own people. It's the governments that are differing.
I believe if the North were ever to attack anyone, it would be acting as China's rook or bishop it the event China or possibly Russia wants to get hostile with anyone. It seems to me it's not just simply the North vs. the South, but is only a division in someone's (huge countries) great chess game board that's being played over the course of many decades on this peninsula. The USA is behind the South and Russia/China are behind the North. The Korean people on both sides are pawns not to talk them down, but it's apparent. |
