I have read varied reports on EPIK and many have said that whether you have a good or a bad experience with them depends on individual schools and the areas you work in . So could anyone tell me if anything positive or negative about the following places and EPIK and perhaps recomend any schools there :



Gwanbgju
Daejeon
ulsan
gangwondo province
chungnam

Also are there any alternatives to EPIK you would recommend ?

It depends much more on the individual school than the area. There are great and not-so-great schools in every district.

Rural schools tend to be really weak. On the other hand they don't have high standards and don't push the students or the teachers that hard.

When you go to your location the local Kyoyukcheong( School board) will assign you to a school. The decison will most likely be based on two factors.
(a) Which school hasn't had a foreign teacher yet.
or
(b) Which school is the closest walk to your free apartment.

Comparing PS schools is like comparing apples to bananas as my 2 schools are very different. It's a crapshoot on what sort of situation you might find yourself in, but do expect many last minute changes. Even the town you said you'd be sent to! It can easily go from city of 250,000 people like Gangnueng before flying to Korea to a small town of 2000 or fewer people in the rural hills 2 hours after arriving in Incheon as in my case. I was angered at 1st, but got over it and accepted it though I'm annoyed how inconvenient this makes it for me to do weekend trips and have to ride buses 5 hours round trip to shop Emart as it takes many hours to ply the steep curvy mountain roads and then the bus schedules are too limited where the last bus is at 7PM.
