Hey all, I am leaving for a big trip in Nepal soon and I want to have a knife with me. I already have my headlamp and cooking gear, boots and rain gear but I can't find a single-blade pocket knife anywhere. the outdoors outfitter had all these expensive Swiss pocketknifes. but I want something like a Gerber or Benchmade. good sharp easy opening action and a locking mechanism you can trust. any ideas? |

I have a few vintage single-blade, Imperial Schrade pen/pocket knives I got from a shop that was going out of business, several years ago.
They are old, but in brand new condition (this is usually referred to as NOS or New Old Stock). They are still in their plastic sleeves, and have never been used. They were manufactured in Ireland in the early '70s.
The one I carry has been in my pocket for about 4 years now and it's a tight, tidy little knife - handy and well-made. I use it all the time. It has a great all around blade with a clever internal locking mechanism like I've never seen before.
When closed; one holds the knife upright and squeezes the blade into the body - and the lock releases. When open; hold downward and squeeze the blade into the handle and the lock will catch.
I originally bought 5, and paid U$15 each for them which included the shipping. I kept one, gave one as a present to a very close friend, and I still have 3 remaining.
The design is completely traditional, and the blade is stainless steel - about 2.5" by 3/4" (approximately). The handle is simulated pearl, and made of plastic.
This is a well-made knife by Schrade, a venerable old cutler who if you're not familiar with, can be learned about here;

If interested, make an offer but please be aware that I'm not looking to give or toss these away. They're quite rare, heritage pieces.
And while I'm not looking to get rich from these, neither am I willing to let them go at a loss. In such case, I'd rather keep them and give them as gifts if need be or sell them over time. Knives like these will last a lifetime, perhaps 2 or more even. So let me know.

You can find them at camping stores at Namdaemun Market in Seoul. The stores are on the main street that line 4 follows (the street that connects Myeongdong station with Seoul station). |
