Does anyone have information regarding Woosong University's Master's degree in TESL? Is it accepted amongst other Korean universities as being legit? Or, is it not even worth the paper it's written on.

I don't know. But hey, let us know if you're accepted and decide to go.

Usually, the higher the standards, the better the reputation. But sometimes we have to use anything we can to judge the worth of a program.

Pocari,

If Korean universities don't want to hire those with an MA/PhD from a Korean university, but rather one from overseas (preferrably North America), then what would be different for a non-Korean? Actually, I know....

I spent a lot of time looking into gaining advanced degrees from a Korean university, and here's what I found....

If I were to go the East Asian Studies route, American and Canadian PhD prgrammes definitely think an MA (in, say, Korean Studies) from a Korean university <only from the top 4> would be better. However, they all stated that it would be infinitely better to get my PhD from a NA school.

If I were to go the Applied Linguistics route, all of my Korean professor friends (at several different univs.) said do NOT attend a Korean univ <unless I'm a PhD candidate from a NA school, and need to come over for research>. As for the NA schools, they concur.

I hope this helps. Oh, and if you haven't, check out the threads about distance learning...I put my 2 cents in (and have followed my own advice).

Shoosh!

Ryst
