|
|
I've got an interview coming up with a university, and it's going to be in person. I've never had a face-to-face interview for a job in Korea before, and this is the first Uni job I've applied for. Anybody have any experience with these they'd like to share? |

Dress professionally, develop a sample lesson plan that you can present to them (most universities will request something like this) and just try to relax. |

If they ask you why you came to Korea (very common question) prepare an answer about how you are fascinated by Korean culture and history and how you have always wanted to learn the language
Don't say anything about needing money.
The impression you want to leave them with is you are a cheerful, happy foreigner that will never cause any problems. Do that and you are in. |

Be curious about the job.
Ask questions about the students, curriculum, availability of other teachers to seek advice, etc.
Be able to defend your teaching philosophy and teaching style with some ESL jargon. |

It depends on the caliber of university and professionalism of the hiring committee. Obviously your resume and application interests the university. Follow the guidelines of the application and interview, present yourself as a professional, ask about the program, and be prepared to explain methodology, implementation and problem solving. |

In my last interview for my current uni job, they had a list of questions on a sheet of paper. They gave me two minutes to look them over, then asked me a few of them. Mostly about teaching methodology and the like. Don't be surprised with a few from left field. I got asked random questions about Ireland.
Seems like an odd time to be hiring so maybe you are basically in. |

Dress professionally and be a white person and you'll get the job.
Seriously. |

You'd have to be aiming for pretty low level uni's for THAT to be enough. |
