I'm interested in finding out what kind of experience/qualifications the typical foreign English teacher who works at a Korean University has:

1) Masters Degree in anything

2) Bachelors + TESL Cert + Relevant Teaching Experience

3) Bachelors + Teaching Experience

4) Bachelors

Many Uni ads that I have read require a Masters...but that may just be their preference...

Someone working for one may have concrete info.

We both have MA's. I have an MEd in poli sci/history and a secondary teacher certification and have taught high school and junior college in the US

Mrs Flyer has an MA in English and taught in the states too

our soon to be former univ insists on MAs but there is a person with a BA here now.

think it depends on where you will be teaching, if you will be in the univ hogwon a BA may suffice but if you are teaching credit courses an MA is likely needed and with the job market tightening up an MA in English or TESOL or a TESOL cert may also be needed

why I have no idea, at least at my present school a BA is all you really need

I think everyone has a BA at my uni even though their advert states that MA is required. Go figure.

Both teachers at my university:
Bachelor and Master's degrees in education, PGCEs in TEFL, assorted TEFL certifications, ten years or more experience. One is certified in USA and published author. One has significant international experience.
