I guess Seoul probably holds the most classical music concerts, but I'm wondering if any of you could tell me about the concert opportunities in your city. What do Daegu, Pusan, Gwangju, and smaller cities have to offer?
I'm also wondering if any of you have joined orchestras or chamber music groups in Korea. How did you get into a group? |

Hello, Different!
I moved to Cheongju in September.
(Cheongju has a half million population and a multiplicity of universities.)
The Methodist church had a Christmas concert accompanied by a local string orchestra.
It was a darn good string orchestra.
I play the violin, but I decided that I would be ashamed to audition for this orchestra.
I have a full set of recorders, though.
If anyone knows where I can find a register of recorder ensembles, please write back. |

Hello Tomato!
Did you live anywhere else in Korea before you moved to Cheongju? If so, how often were there good concerts there? Did you try to find people to play music with? Do you know how often there are good concerts in Cheongju? |

I lived in Hongseong for about a year.
There was a community center there.
I couldn't find an orchestra but I could find a community chorus.
I joined, but I got kicked out because I couldn't read the Korean lyrics fast enough.

So far, the notice for the Christmas concert was the only notice for a good concert which I have seen so far. |

There is a brand new concert hall in Mannyundong, Daejeon. It rocks! ~ in a classical kinda way. The Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra is frigging champion. Well worth the 50 000 Won annual Gold Pass fee. |
