It's in the province of Gyeonggi.
Has anyone worked there and can give some info on what life is like there. From what I understand it's not as big as the other cities. I was also wondering if anyone knew, how long it took if you wanted to travel to Seoul.
I'm looking into a position there and wanted some info on the foreigner population and how the social night scene is like. I understand it's not as big as the other cities.
I was not able to find alot of info online.
BTW, I don't mean Gwangju Metropolitan
PS: Is there a way to get a GEPIK school to pay for the flight there in advance instead of buying it and getting it reimbursed
Thanks in advance! |

I used to live there. It's one and half hours to any where in Seoul that you would actually want to hang out, forty five mintutes from the closest areas. Bundang isn't so far away.
There was f-all to do there when I was living there. I think there is a group on facebook for the expats of the city now.
At any rate it wasn't the worst year of life but not the best either. |

Thanks for the info.
Do you know how far it is from Bandang... and when you say there's nothing to do, how bad is it lol (Is there ANY social scene)
PS: there's another place with the same name.. how does one differentiate between the 2 |

Well I hung out with about five folks from there that are all gone now. Depending on where you are it's about 30 minutes from Bundang. There are a couple of bowling alleys and a place called the WaBar that we would frequent. I think your best bet is to get on the facebook group. It was fun when we got a few of us together (which was rare) but when we did we called it a Gwangjubilee and a good time was always had.
But seriously there are worse places to be. You will be bored at times though so bring some extra books. |

Same way one would differentiate between any two cities of the same name...give more details. Koreans normally say Jeolla Gwangju and Gyeonggi Gwangju to differentiate. I'd normally just say Big Gwangju (Jeolla Gwangju) or small Gwangju (Gyeonggi), everyone will know what you are saying.. |

I don't think so. Keep all of your baggage ticket stubs & boarding passes, for all sectors flown.

FYI the Facebook group is called 'The other Gwangyu'. Please do join.
I live close to there and there is a decent group of foreigners around. |

Hey! I know this is old, but do any of you still live in Gwangju? I'm hopefully moving there in October, just waiting on all my docs to be processed. |

I just got a job offer from PWI in Gyeonggi Gwangju... anyone know anything about it? Can't find anything on google or on these forums.
I start late September. Possibly. Depending on what the contract looks like and what the current foreign teachers have to say about it... |

I live in Gwangju now, but am finishing my contract at the end of September. My husband works at another school in the area. With the timing, either shazo or ennoncha might be replacing me or my husband. Do you know the school name?
I really like the area. It's convenient to Seoul without being subject to the crowds and traffic everyday. The bus system is good and there are an unusually large number of non-Korean restaurants and Asian markets in the area. |
