He's not guilty, he's an Oracle. Finding him guilty would have admitted it, that bloggers know more than the gov. The prosecutors plan to appeal. Guess they're sore losers.

In a Dec. 29 posting, he wrote that officials had ordered financial institutions to stop buying dollars as the government tried to curb the fall of the won, South Korea's currency, against the greenback.
The posting devastated the local foreign exchange market, forcing the nation's financial authority to spend $2 billion to bolster the won as the demand for dollars surged wildly.
Prosecutors said Park destabilized the nation's currency market. |
Ascribing all that power to a blogger? wowsers
Anyone have his blog address? He deserves cudos for free speech. |

As a former journalist, I find it very amusing that a blogger gets arrested for simply communicating something that was happening. The real "criminal" would be the person committing the offensive action, not the person reporting it. Great example of shooting the messenger. |

Mr. Park may be free to blog again, but comments on the Korea Times showed that not everyone is thrilled to hear what he has to say. While user mwhitaker wrote, What was he arrested for, if govt ADMITTED Minerva was correct? Arrested for nothing. Case closed. [South Korean president] Lee should stop whining about internet & lead Korea forward instead of backward. |
Just kind of business is just up HelicoptorMom's alley seeing how I have a vested interest in Korea---my first born son! |

Part of the problem was that he was reporting things that were NOT happeneing - at least not how he described them. |

That is not excusable. I didn't realize that (I didn't read his stuff.) Of course, whether or not false reporting is criminal is questionable. At least it's not criminal in the US! lol..
The dumb thing is that he is a blogger. People should take bloggers with a grain of salt.. there are some accurate ones, but anyone basing investment decisions on a blogger is a fool.
Good point though.. |

Wasn't it the case that he reported something that wasn't true insofar as the actual details went, but that the basic thrust of his allegations was accurate? I seem to recall something about how he said that the government had written letters to the banks asking them to take certain actions, but that in fact the government had made the request in a private meeting, not by letter. Or something like that. |
