i work at a university english village. before the university ran their own childrens camps during the summer & winter. last year, some regulation changed and our boss told us universities cannot have their own camps. however, universities can rent out their facilities to other organizations wishing to hold camps there. this past summer we had a camp and i was paid extra for working it. now our boss wants to have other companies camps and says we must work it without extra pay. my contract is very vague so i can't really use that against them. but i have the following questions....

1. can they also rent out their employees along with the facilities?

2. should i be compensated for this work by the organization and also receive my university pay?

3. is it even legal for me to work the camp?

i tried immigration and they can't answer this question. i haven't been able to get through to an english speaker in the ministry of education. any info you have would be appreciated. cheers!

Will the camp be at the University? (i.e. on their property)

If so, then the answer to 1 and 3 is YES.

Regarding 2. will you be working overtime? Will these camp classes be in addition to your University classes or instead of? If it's overtime, the answer is you should be paid...if not, you shouldn't. (the contract shouldn't be vague on this one though).

This is the main reason I quit Korea, and probably won't ever go back. I say 'probably". What the Korean education department should do is go ahead and turn the entire country into a giant hogwart/English camp. Every parent could then sluff his/her brat off onto an unsuspecting white face and enjoy peace and quiet, just like he/she wants, for 12-15 hours a day, 6 days a week, 11 months a year.
