Can someone help me with this?

I have a child who is deeply infatuated with Star Wars. Now I could drill him like my other students but his level is quite high and his mother home schools him on English so he's A-Ok on that front.

The issue is he hates English. So his mom asked me if there was anyway to spark his interest. So somehow the topic of star wars came into one of our disscussions.

Now, does anyone have any type of material or know of any Star Wars -ESL infusion type thing? I tried looking online but, suprise there's only 1 article about how star wars is a box office hit.

I'm open to any creative suggestions anyone might have.

Thanks in advance

Make your own materials. Get pictures of the characters get himn to describe them, set research projects, compare and conrast the movies (and no you don't have to watch the movie in class time)

Can you tell the movie story in 6 scenes, get some pics and speach bubbles.

Just adapt standard ESL material to a Star Wars theme e.g. How to order fodd at the Cantina, Palanets i've travelled too and destroyed Darth Vader video diary (there is a really good Lego star wars Eddy Izzard on you tube no link but it is well funny)

only one article? Like only 1 in Korean?

The volumes of media and literature published on Star Wars is staggering.

Watch the movies, or scenes from the movies with him.

Give him a character sheet where he has to answer questions for each character:

What is Han Solo's job?
Why is Luke angry with his Aunt and Uncle?
How lame are the ewoks?

Or he could build a character trait list for each:
Leia:
She's a princess.
She has brown hair.
She is brave.
She looks good in a metal bikini.

Show him some of the key scenes than have him create a 'Rising Action'/Climax/Falling Action chart of the important points in each scene and explain it in English.

Have him imagine he is one of the characters and write a diary entry.

I dont know how old he is or how high his level is but you could eve have him do some debating/defense.
-Would you rather be a Sith or a Jedi?
-Was it ok that Han shot first?

that's all I can think of off the top of my head. but just throw together your own worksheets that can be easily expanded ('ok, why? really, why do you think he did that?''No, I've never seen the 2nd movie, tell me about it')

good luck

lol like crazy.

hahha unfortunately I'm only familiar with the old 70's movies.

I know next to nothing about the newer ones (which is what he's interestd) so I guess I'll have to do some research tonight.

Thanks for the ideas. I like the comic bubble one very much and should be easy to do. Also a great English production exercise. The "who is it" will be a spectacular listening and reading comprehension exercise. He will learn a lot from it.

I'm quite excited about making it. Thanks, any more suggestions welcomed of course

There is a comic out there that follows the movie step by step but in D&D version with very stupid conversation, but quit funny.

Why not play the "Star Wars" Role Playing Game with him. He can create his own Star Wars character. Customize its abilities and play in a Star Wars setting. You can order the books off of Amazon.

Here is a link for the Darth Vader at a canteen, perhaps not for class (as there is some swearing in it) although you could get hime to make something like this Smile

Check out Wookiepedia. You can make family trees for his favorite characters. Study the history of the Sith or anything about the Star Wars galaxy. I've nerded out on the site a few times on those days when I'm desk warming.

Maybe start with Han Solo's rise to fame,
