my partner and i want to work at the same school. we're both certified teachers from canada with over 5yrs of experience teaching here. we've received several job offers, but after doing a bunch of research, have read some really negative things about these schools.
can anyone recommend a reputable hagwon? we are looking for something that will offer us:
2.5 million + in salary
central seoul location
4 wks vacation
thanks in advance |

I know some hagwons that to offer that outside of Seoul but not in Seoul. It may be because Seoul has such a large pool of potential teachers. Everyone wants to get in there, no one wants to be left out.
It's amazing what a few miles will make you in pay, if you are willing to teach in Incheon, Suwon, Anyang, Ilsan, etc... |

University or International school.....Public school is another option, but the pay varies depending on the school(although with 5+ years of experience, I think you'd be on the high end of the starting pay scale and be over 2.5). |

we are willing to work outside of seoul. one of our job offers was from bundang.
as for the international schools (the real ones), we have applied. the problem is, the majority of the international schools in korea seem to be christian based, and we're not willing to teach at a christian school (nor would they want us most likely!).
the problem with the public schools is that they (from what i have heard) only hire one foreign teacher PER school and we want to work at the same school.
can anyone recommend some names of reputable schools that we could apply to? |

Depending on your timing...you might want to try out the Hong Kong Net program. Two teachers would make some really good money. It is a long process but I did see an ad here on dave's international job board.
Something to think about....check it out and see if you qualified... |

| 4 weeks vacation at a hagwon might be hard to find, anywhere, without connections here beforehand to sort the good from the bad. |

| I would like to know what hagwons in Korea - outside of Seoul offer this kind of package as well - I prefer a city though - not totally rural - a place with good transportation and some things to do - not looking at farm fields in the boonies. |

Hagwons offer the moon and the stars. Good luck getting hogwans to honor the contract. |

Most public school programmes would give you 2.1 tops if you've never taught in Korea before, regardless of experience.
An international school is the way to go if you actually want to teach. Finding a suitable hagwon that pays 2.5 to two people coming from outside Korea will be a challenge. |
