My contract is being terminated at my private elementary school and my employer has agreed to give me a letter of release so I can transfer the visa. I was a little confused about having to submit another criminal record check so i called immigration. The lady on the phone told me that my letter of release is only valid for public schools, private schools or universities. So I can use it, but it must be used for a teaching job that is not a hogwan. She said it cannot be used for hogwan positions because they follow a different code. This doesn't make sense to me because both of them require the exact same E2 visa. There is no separate visa for for public, private, or university teachers.
She told me that I can get a hogwan position, but i would have to go to Japan for a visa run, meaning I would have to submit a new criminal record check, which again makes no sense because the one I game to them in February is under 6 months old. How the hell could I commit a crime in Canada if I have not been there?
For you legal gurus are these stipulations actually true regarding a letter of release from a non hogwon position? Has anyone else ever transferred from a public, private school to a hogwon under the current visa regulations, even at the end of one contract to another? |

When I changed jobs (LAST YEAR MARCH...) this was pretty much the case. I could transfer my visa from to PUBLIC school...but if I wanted to work in a hagwon...I needed a new visa, with all the documents. |

Man these crimina lrecord checks are B.S. I mean common logic would tell people that if you already submitted one it is impossible to perform a criminal act if you have not left the country! Eish! |

Can you transfer your visa from a public school to an after school program at a public school or are those visas not sponsered by the public school? |
