An old trick Arnold used.
Flex everything and then jump up and down a bit. Anything that moves is not muscle.

Why do you think English teachers in Korea would have any idea about
this? Don't you think it would be better to go to an exercise forum? |

BMI is utterly USELESS for anyone with any muscle mass to speak of
e.g.

that story about the 8% bodyfat bodybuilder being told by some Korean quack that he was 'fat' had me in complete stitches! |

I agree with Bogey. That calculator seemed accurate enough as BMI calculators go. The problem is that they aren't accurate. They're designed for sedentary people. If you aren't sedentary, it doesn't work very well.
You'll find other calculators which also calculate your wrist diameter, in order to try and determine your bone structure. None of this takes into account muscle.
Basically, BMI isn't designed for athletes. If you are, or were recently athletic or into weight lifting, the BMI isn't going to account for your muscle mass (on the other end of the spectrum, if you have extremely low muscle mass, you can be overly fatty, and appear to have normal bmi.)
My personal suggestion is either a tape measurer or skin calipers. Calipers are more accurate, but tape measurers are easier to find and use. Look up waist-to-hip ratio on google. The reason obesity causes you to be unhealthy is that it crushes all of your organs in your body. Your body spends a lot of energy pumping blood through your kidneys, liver, and intestines. Putting a big lump of fat on top of your organs stresses the entire system and makes it all work harder. That's what gives you heart disease.
When I was in shape in the university, just after highschool, I had a body-fat percentage of 11 or 12%, but the BMI said I was borderline obese. Since then, I've gained 25 pounds, some of it muscle, most of it fat, and I AM borderline obese. BMI says I'm completely obese. It just doesn't work for me. Waist-to-hip ratio for me puts me at borderline (which is where I am.)
Seriously, just google 'waist-to-hip ratio' and you'll find a lot of good information. A good waist-to-hip ratio for men is .90 |

BMI is a fairly poor indicator of how healthy you are. If you want to find out your body fat, you will ned a calipers as described above, and some instruction on how to use them. They are very accurate and if you are exercising and eating well you will notice a difference as time goes by. |

If my weight is in the 24th percentile, does that mean it could get a scholarship to Ballys or should it settle for Gold's? |
