I am applying to teach in Korea and am clearing out possessions - the ads here in the states are full of gold buying - send for the free envelop and they write a check.

Anyone done this? and what has been your experience?

There don't seem to be any jewelry appraisers in my area to find out what my stuff is even worth.

Put in on ebay and let me know. I'll bid what it's worth, and if someone bids higher, cool.
Don't mail it in to one of those cheezy scams.

If you're in the US, try selling to Apmex.com, Kitco.com or another large reputable company that's been around a while. What do you have? Someone here might buy it.

Don't send your gold in the mail.

Great way to get scammed for less than market value.

yeah, I saw clips of local tv stations looking into those scams- every attempt led to more money straight from pawn brokers, by about 10:1.

The key is to DECLINE the initial check they send by phone.... the price ALWAYS goes up substantially when you ask for your jewelry.... still not true market value, but it still goes up... though I'm starting to wonder if even gold is going to become worthless the way things are now... Sad

Think I'll start investing in firearms and dried rations....
