OK, so I was pumped about going to Korea for a couple weeks, then I had interviews with 4 recruiters. One recruiter was cool. The other three were not:

#1

Within the first 30 seconds of the conversation, a time usually meant for small talk...

RECRUITER: What interests you about X city?

ME: Well, I've heard they've had Y festival there, and I'm interested in Y as a hobby.

RECRUITER: Uggggghhhhhhhhh....what does that have to do with education?

ME: Nothing. You asked me why I was interested in X city.

#2

At the end of the conversation.....

ME: Can you spell your last name for me?

(awkward 10 second pause)

RECRUITER: I already said it. Why don't you look in your email?

#3

Again within the first 30 seconds of the conversation...

RECRUITER: You didn't respond to my email within 12 hours. (her voice adopts an accusatory tone) Are you interviewing with another recruiter?

I'm hoping these are like disgruntled salespeople drudging through another day at work.

Because if the majority of Koreans adopt this patronizing attitude towards foreigners, I'm re-thinking a one-year contract over there.

Seriously don't deal with those people.

I'd drop them faster a girl with STD's.

Like other said, go with Rowan. He was incredibly handy and helpful when I used him. Nothing but smiles and a happy demeanor about him.

I've been in sales before and was interviewed for a recruiting position before... so I know a little of the industry, and those recruiters are D-Bags. Avoid, don't even use them because of their sheer rudeness. Nothing excuses that.

just to echo the previous posters, drop them. Many recruiters (if you can call them that.....many aren't even licensed) here are scum and will tell you bull$hit in particular to newbies like you have to make a quick decision because the jobs are in demand , lie about the contract, tell you you will live in a huge apartment, great area to make you sign on the dotted line etc..........but there are a few that are very good like Rowan as mentioned before. if you're after a PS go for ESL-Planet,Korvia or Korea Connections

Hmm...well could it be that your attitude has affected them? Seems like you're the common denominator.
Anyways I haven't had problems yet so can't sympathize with you. They've all be courteous to me. Very Happy

No, this isn't the original poster's fault. March is over, the recruiters are under pressure to get the leftover schools a teacher. Many teachers are probably asking for good public school jobs and ending up having to consider hagwon crap jobs (not knowing any better).

I would wait until August before signing up for a school.

Rowan's ad made me laugh!

"All recruiters are full of sh&t!" lol

I can't believe he put that in his own ad.

Claiming that it's dangerous to get a private job as the school will likely close is a little overboard though.

Private schools generally pay more money. And sometimes for less hours.
