Go ahead and get your digs in. Night after night, win or lose, he does at least three things that make you shake your head in bewilderment and one that leaves you flat-out speechless.

http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=pavel+datsyuk&sourceid=navclient-ff&rlz=1B2RNFA_enKR271&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=video_result_group&resnum=4&ct=title#

A cheesy video, but some great moves. The scary thing is that he keeps getting better.

Best thing about him is how fun it is to say his last name.

I never thought I'd advocate the meteor puck, but after watching a few videos on youtube, they pretty much need it.

Oops, the link was supposed to be a different video but whatever. There is plenty on the page to argue my case. I predict "Datsyukian" will enter hockey nomenclature in the way Felliniesque and Lynchian has with film. Hyperbole and hero worship, isn't that what sports fandom is all about?

Daytsuk is pretty amazing but In my opinion, Alexander Ovechkin is the best player in the NHL. I have been a fan of the Washington Capitals since the late 1970's and having watched him play and seeing highlights of him, there is no one better. I love watching all of their Russians play. Ovechkin, Semin, Fedorov, Kozlov and soon Varlamov.

Should be an interesting 2010 Olympics though. Canada, Sweden and Russia all look to have strong teams.

As long as Cindy Crysby (aka Captain Buttpunch) isn't Captain of Team Canada, I think Canada will win.

I can't name a better stickhandler in the league, Datsyuk is awesome.

Here's a good little reel of pretty (or just wierd) goals. Pavel's one-footer puck-on-a-string goal against Turco is on there.

I think Alex Kovalev is a better stickhandler. Not as fast or as young as Datsyuk, but no one can string it along like him.

Datsyuk is a good player but far from the league's best.He is top 25 though.

Not true. He's surpassed them all this season.

Lidstrom is a bot of a different case because he is a Dman, but Datsyuk has been better than both Hossa and Zetterberg this year.

The guy is doing it all and having an amazing season.

He keeps getting better.

all russian players suck after five years in the league.. the best russian player ever to play in the nhl is/was federov and while he had a great start in his early years, he turned to complete garbage after that.

That's what I fear. I remember how exciting it was to watch Federov, that feeling that Anything could happen when he was on the ice. He could just turn it on in the blink of an eye. Then he started to do it less and less. What a disappointment. Datsyuk creates that same excitement for me, here's hoping his career takes a different trajectory.
