I bought an older version of one of these for my wife and while I am quite happy with it I recommend you buy a used DSLR at the price you seem to be willing to send,
You don't need that many megapixels on a point and shoot. You get more noise at the higher ISOs and while the noise can be reduced somewhat through modern day techno-wizardry there is a limit, At the price you seem to be willing to spend I would highly recommend buying a used entry level like the Nikon D40 and buying a used prime lens such as 28 or a 35mm. You might end up spending a $100 more at most but you would be able to re-sell your camera at a better price than a Point and shoot, and your pictures would look much much nicer.
If you must buy a point and shoot then I would still suggest you get an older model of one of these Canon powershots. The IXUs 70 I bought my wife and a much better aperture (lets in much more light) than the ones you are looking at and was made of metal as well. |

Thanks for the suggestions. I am looking more for a point and shoot camera as I will be travelling and I don't want to lug alot around. I just read that these got pretty good reviews so I was just curious as what people thought. Thanks |

Everyone always says they don't want to lug around a lot but these entry level DSLRs are lighter than you think. Especially the Canon Rebel Series.
If you buy a point and shoot, always try to buy one with a lens that has a high aperture (f2.8 or a smaller number) as you will get better results lower light as PaSs flash often doesn't look very good. |

Thanks Golem. I'm thinking maybe the Sd 880 because it supposedly takes better pictures in lower light than the other ones. I'm not sure if there are other ones that may be better but I always hear that Canon usually takes better quality pictures than the rest. I have tried others and I really like the design and feel of these two. I have seen and tried the Nikon s60 and the sony cybershots which look good but I'm not sure they take as good as photos as canons do. Plus I like the feel of the Canons more than others. Anyways more comments will help me decide. Does anyone know how much it might be at Namdaemun? I'm hoping well around 300 000 won as I've seen both these cameras for 390 or 400 in stores in korea. Anyways more comments would help me greatly. Thanks |

Hey, I was wondering if anyone who is photo savy, between the Sd 780 and the Sd880, will i see that much of a difference in terms of photo quality? Too the amateur photo shooter, is there a big difference? Also, is there a big difference between the optical zoom of 3x and 4x and also the aperature. Sorry, I just would like to know before I buy one of these or another camera.
Thanks |
