Sept 09 EPIK contract and recruiter restrictions

I was looking at shifting to a new public school position in a bigger city for Sept 1, from my present school in a smaller city in an different province.
I have just been emailed by an EPIK recruiter saying that all he can't do this for me as a new EPIK rule states that all public school teachers already working in any public school in Korea cannot submit papers through an agent anymore. He said he no longer gets any fee for situations like this.
You apparently have to go direct to the EPIK website. Has anybody else been told of this?

Also while checking the new EPIK September 2009 contract just posted on the EPIK home website out I noticed some adjustments.
Be warned the PDF is a crazy 26MB to download! maybe EPIK dont want teachers looking at it?

Article 6 -resignation -number 3 Seems you must resign only the way they describe in writing giving full 30 days to your Principal and also the supervisor of the office of education or you will be reported to immigration and this will affect your ability to "freely enter the Republic of Korea in the future".

This makes me wonder if EPIK is really going to blacklist at immigration every public school teacher who does this wrong or does a runner?

Article 12 . Housing - pretty specific that only single housing given that is chosen by employer -or lodging deemed sufficient by the employer.
number 5. Lists the basic items you will get in your apartment plus " The employee shall not request or demand any appliances or furniture than those stipulated herein"

Also paid vacation period is now clarified as 18 working days .- 8 working days in summer recess and 10 days in winter recess.

You must be talking about Epik and even then I understand that the individual school has the right to seek people outside(recruiter) of Epik. Confused Confused

"freely enter ROK" could be a bluff. Resigning or doing a runner is NOT breaking the law. Now, if you are not released from your visa, that's a problem.

It's a total bluff!

The people in charge of EPIK are not stupid but they know the vast majority of 'newbies' to K-land are; and will believe anything purports to come from the government. Rolling Eyes

Control... it's all about controlling the 'pesky waygooken' who have the audacity to think for themselves. Wink

I just read the thing and overall I think it's a good improvement in terms of clarity. They specifically tell you that you will be expected to perform normal duties during vacation.

However on a disturbing note, the clause about overtime is pathetic.

If youw work less than 22 hours AND you work after school, the school administration will tell you what you get paid, probably less..... WOOT!

Of course, there's a whole new crop of naive newbie 'backpackers' who don't even have copy of their contract; and don't have the wherewithall/balls to say "No".
