I plan on reiterating my 'wash your hands' policy in the classroom this morning. However this time I'll explain that there's a new sickness that may be in Korea (no confirmed cases yet, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time).

Will you discuss this with your (young) students? How will you talk about it?

I applaud your effort on this subject my Canadian neighbor, but your beating a dead horse. Wash your hands with what? Water and um.. Water!
I see one bar of soap or the equivelant in every 1 out of 100 sinks in K-land. Yes, your statement is absolutely 100% valid somewhere else.

Phuk it, while I'm here, do you think the students really give a swine's ass about the viral strain designation of the latest and greatest influenza virus circulating this rock? Bring in a flamethrower. That should sterilize your classrooms! More effective than soap!!

The thing that concerns me the most is parents sending their obviously-ill children to school. Packed classrooms, poor sanitation, etc. Schools here are the perfect incubator for this kind of thing.

And many of us are dead-smack in the middle of them. Shocked

Why would one bother trying to broach the subject of public health in K-land following the mad cow fiasco? Science, fact and rationality don't play a role in the debate there.

How much fear does the media need to spread before educated people catch onto what they are doing?

Fear campaign -you idiots to control the masses and sell drugs.

They made serious bucks with the bird flu scare.

Wake up people.

I asked my co-teach,
"Why is there no hot water in the school?"
"Because the students might burn their hands", was the response I received.

This was after I had spent 10 minutes explaining to her why 30% of the students had pink eye.

Maybe the should try that one next " Attention mass pink eye pandemic"

I guess it doesn't sound as scarey as a pig flu death disease. I do believe in real diseases but sorry to say this one looks like another fear trip.

I think a zombie strain would be cool and it would expalin why all those zombie movies were made.

Good job comparing apples to oranges there with the pink eye thing.

Now that you mentioned it, same here! Holy Shit, that's the reason for no hot water! I thought it might have been to save on energy costs.
