|

Hello everyone,
I'm about to file my taxes this week. I got a question for those in the know. Besides the 1040 and 2555(foreign earned income exclusion form) what other paperwork/documents should I attach to these forms to prove my earnings here in Korea?
As we all know our employers here don't issue W2 like forms or in alot of cases pay statements, someone from this board mentioned earlier we could send in a affidavit stating our earnings.
But how would I get such a affidavit here? How about just a personal written statement and estimate on how much I make? Would this be enough? Any other paperwork, like a copy/or portion of our contract, bank statement? Thanks. |

That is all I filed and my return was accepted. No need to document income further than the IRS forms. If they required it they would ask for the supporting documents on the foreign income form.
To everyone else out there, file your taxes yearly. It's a pain in the arse to file multiple years when you return. Even if you don't owe, you still are required to file. |

You make a supplemental page that lists your income divided in four quarters with the exchange rate to English for that quarter and a line that says "no w2 style of income documentation exists" and then the total for the year at the end
needless to say use the official exchange rates |

Check this thread for some info: ATTN Americans.
From what I've gathered you only have to file the 2555 once. AFter that, you just file your 1040. Upon returning home for a job, you'll have to submit a statement revoking the 2555.
Can anyone actually confirm this?? |
