Also fun to note the the biggest airports in my home country-- Chicago, Los Angeles and NYC--- are on the rock bottom list. Its true, our airports are the worst, and staffed by egomaniacal power hungry assholes ever since Geo W. deputized our airport workers as "federal agents" protecting "homeland security". |

I had a twelve hour layover in Incheon. It is a great airport to sleep in. There are some big, near-deserted lounges upstairs with large, fairly comfortable sofas. The 8000won shower was well worth it, and there are places you can actually smoke indoors. All on the gate side of customs. |

Incheon is the best airport I have ever visited in almost every regard. |

Incheon might be good to sleep in, but if you need a toothbrush, contact lense solution, or for that matter, a bag of chips, you are out of luck once you're through security and customs. Not a single convenience store in entire clearance area.
Not this, to me, is bizarre. |

It's the no water bottle rule. In Chicago airport, there was not one vender nor one vending machine. Not even a water fountain. It was spartan as they get, but just a large void of space devoid of anything. Ditto on any services after security and the flight was delayed by 3 hours! They did have electric plugins, but no comfortable seating as we were sitting on the floor to use electric and then were just small metal seats in the gate area. 10 years ago, services and convenience stores were much more common in terminals, but for security reasons, nothing is allowed. Flying today is like being a voluntary prisoner.
I'll rate all airports high on the list when they allow me a big 2 liter bottle of water after security to board a flight as flights dehydrate me contributing to more severe jet lag. In the 1990's, I used to bring my own 2 liter bottle of water on long flights and didn't feel as thirsty and jet lagged as I do on long haul flights today. You get these little cocktail cups, but I need like 50 of those. |
