What's the best trip you've ever taken/the destinations therein? For me it was actually Beijing, but I'd like to hear other people's favorites, thanks:

Mongolia. So much open space. Northern Lake Baikal was pretty good too. And the Canadian Rockies.

Without doubt Japan. I backpacked around for 6 months in total a couple of years ago on a Working Holiday Visa, when it was more affordable. Fantastic country! Looking forward to going back there in February...

My favorite place was Jinhong, Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province, China. It's near Laos in southern Yunnan. I really just loved the people there. It's not a big place, but you can access a lot of small villages from Jinhong. The food was tasty and cheap. The people were super friendly. I still talk to a med student I met on the street while watching some junior high students practice their b-boy moves in front of a closed store, using it's window as a mirror. Most people spend three days there, but my friend and I spent eight days. We got to know some of the locals, sorta, since our Chinese wasn't very good and their English was minimal, but we felt included while we were with them. There was an amazing bakery, not fancy, just super tasty cookies and breads using local foods. It's a cool place to go if you're just looking to chillax. We were there during the worst winter China had seen in 50 years and the weather was great that far south. If you want a bit of adventure take the sleeper bus from Kunming to Jinhong. It's gets interesting when you get up in the mountains.

Guatemala is my favorite country in the world. There is so much to do and see and the people are fantastic and so is the food. I've been twice and I still haven't done everything.

Luang Phrabang in Laos was great, too, when I went in 1998. It's become more noticed, & more touristed since then, though, so it might be worth seeking out current travel advice.

Well Ive been to over 50 countries, but I would have to say my 6 month overland truck and camping trip thru South east Africa incl. Egypt was awesome.

Its really is another world over there. See it to believe it!

Nepal, hiking through the Himalayas for 500Km, on the 'Around Annapurna' loop. Mega touristy in high season but I did it in March so only about 10 people a day coming through.
