I recently gave notice at my university and my manager has said they will not give me a reference because I am leaving before the full one year of the contract is up (even though I followed the contract guidelines to the letter regarding giving proper notice.)
It's purely a vindictive measure by my manager and an attempt to stop me leaving because there will now not be a single teacher here next semester. My manager admitted my teaching was 'above average'.
So...
Will my manager be able to not cancel my visa when I leave, thereby stopping me doing a visa run and starting a new job in Korea (because my previous visa will not have expired.)
Is there any way I can cancel my own visa? |

I'm in the EXACT same situation, and I have been told that you can cancel your own visa by handing in your ARC card at immigration, but I haven't done this so would like an expert to respond. |

What did they do to you? I was told that if a student pushes me it's my fault, I must work overtime, and I have to be in my office 45 hours a week. |

The situation is as follows.
You can get an exit order from immigration at the airport, and then hand in your arc at the airport authorities when you exit the country.
If then your University does not cancel the VISA within 14 days of your cancellation, they actually have to pay a fine (up to 3M won)
I had the situation where my teacher in order to get a VISA to go through Russia (he wanted to try the transsyberian), needed an extra three months on his VISA in Korea. So we extended his contract by three months, got the extension, got the VISA for Russia, canceled the contract, canceled the Korean visa when exiting the country.
My secretary forgot to cancel the VISA by fax (which is accepted), and they called us telling us this information. |

Can I cancel it at an immigration office in the country without my university? I've got conflicting info on this.

Sometimes it's hard to get rock solid confirmation on forums because people will talk when they actually don't know what they are talking about. That's good to hear about the visa, but I would like some others to confirm please, because I have heard differently on these boards. |

You might want to show your university Article 49 of the Labor Standards Act (its a sticky on this forum) |
