Good idea? Bad idea?

Here's the catch. I'm thinking this will be my last year in Korea, and I have yet to visit Jeju . . . its one of my goals for this year.

The problem is that 1) the national holidays suck this year, and 2) my school is taking an extra-long summer vacation this year to upgrade all the bathrooms and therefore are cutting out all other vacay days. Unfortunately, I'm going to be doing a teacher training course in summer vacay . . . which leaves Chuseok weekend as my only long weekend for the entire year. SUCK. Even then, I only get three days (Friday-Saturday-Sunday)

So, it kind of seems not worth it to me to go on a regular weekend- not enough time? The Chuseok weekend would be fine, but should I expect EVERYTHING to be closed? Most of the stuff I want to do is outside (beach, hiking, etc.) . . . but I will need a motel (or camping on the beach if that's a possibility) and wouldn't minding eating out once or twice.

Anyone done this before?

Thanks in advance,
politica

BAd IDea.

1) its Chuseok so many things will be closed down to visit and see.
2) Having been there and to a number of islands, Jeju is much ado about nothing. There is quite literally NOTHING there that is special.
3) with Flights, hotel, sigtseeing and transportation you are still looking at a million won at the least, hardly worth it for a weekend.

You could always tell your school that you want to see Jeju and refuse to see it on Chusok and tell them you will take 2 sick days on a Monday and Tuesday. I am not sure what other vacation dates you had that they robbed you of because of these bathrooms, but you could just tell them that you hadnt planned on that and that you are taking 2 days.

but as I said, (in my opinion) you are missing nothing by not going to Jeju, if you have been to other beaches before

I thought Jeju was a pretty cool place, didn't spend anywhere near a million won for my 4 days there (took a ferry from Mokpo). Motels and restaurants were hardly more than anywhere else. The sex sculpture park rocked and the temples were amongst the most beautiful in Korea. I hear there is some special flower there that only blooms in fall. Probably everything will be closed though.
