If it's May the First, it must be riot time in Western Europe. Oh, boy, goodie. Once again every leftwing loonie, anarchist, local thug and bored university student takes to the streets to riot--er--celebrate--er--protest for the world's proletariat.
And once again the response from the Interior Ministries in France and Germany is lackluster, almost indifferent, to the plight of the police.
Yes, the police, the polizei, the men and women who wear the uniform so they can be taunted, insulted, kicked at, harried, pelted, and worse.
The bigger outcry is always for those oh-so-sweet and innocent idealists bullied by the Fascist State, or so their brethren who don't take to the streets, including most of the press, like to believe.
I like Labor Day in America and how in general it's celebrated. My family includes a lot of blue collar workers and farmers going way back. And while I'm not opposed to unions, I do detest their occasional strong arm tactics, like trying to force people to join their ranks who don't want to (ending secret balloting, for instance). One has to live in the Rust Belt North and compare it to the right-to-work ethic of the South to appreciate this situation.
But in Western Europe it's a whole other ball game. Now we've got dozens of seriously injured police, not to mention the thousands who while mentally tough shouldn't have to be subjected to half of what they must endure every time an economic summit is in town, or May Day rolls around. Sure, they're paid to defend, but constrained by pus-sy socialist politicians who won't rally to their defense but are the first to summon them when the going gets rough. And nowhere is this now worse than in Berlin.
The Germans need to get over their collective guilt hangover from the Nazi era. They've probably done more to come to terms with their sordid past than any other European state. So enough of the hand-wringing and hand-holding already. End the extreme pacifism that ties the hands of the police to such an extent that they can't even be adequately proactive in their own defense.

273 German police injured in May Day riots
BERLIN (AP) More than 270 police officers were injured in this year's May Day riots in the German capital, prompting criticism Saturday of Berlin security officials and calls for more officers.
Though the majority of the 273 officers suffered only minor injuries Friday, 14 were badly enough hurt that they will need to take time off work, said Berlin police chief Dieter Glietsch. He did not have more specifics.
In all, 5,800 police officers were on hand to try to keep a lid on the violence that has become a yearly ritual in Berlin. They used tear gas, pepper spray and water cannon as some of the roughly 5,000 leftist demonstrators, marching under the motto "capitalism is war and crisis," threw stones and bottles.
Dozens of demonstrators were injured but there were no exact figures; 289 were arrested. A bank and a fire station had windows broken.
This year's demonstrations turned violent earlier than in previous years, leading to more injuries and arrests. Last year, 112 police officers were hurt and 150 demonstrators arrested.
Rainer Wendt, chairman of one of Germany's national police unions, criticized Berlin interior minister Erhart Koerting's handling of the operation, saying protesters were allowed too much time to get out of hand and urging that a "no tolerance" policy be adopted in the future.
"Whoever throws a stone or wears a mask must be immediately taken out of play," he told the Neuen Osnabruecker Zeitung newspaper.
Koerting condemned the violence, but said overall the police response could be considered a success.
"The deployment concept saw many different measures of violence prevention available, which the police quickly and effectively were able to use when it came to criminal acts," he said.
Konrad Freiberg, the head of Germany's other major police union, said forces had been cut back by 10,000 officers across the country since 2000, making it difficult to muster enough police for major confrontations.
"On days like May 1 we are on the fringes of our capacity," he told Bild newspaper. "This is a political issue... The state must recruit more police despite the economic crisis." |
Every last one of those punks should be forced to work off the hospital bills and overtime pay of the police instead of charging it to the taxpayer but fat chance of that ever happening.
Is it any wonder even Obama couldn't muster a few troops out of them to fight in Afghanistan when they can't even supply enough police for their own streets? |

The movement to Marxism is in process.
Please research Marxism to understand my statement before calling me crazy. It's a theory about the struggle between proletariat and the elite where the struggle ends in a nearly classless society of socialism and dictatorships where free markets and entrepreneurship cease to exist. Kiss Sweet Freedom goodbye while you can still exercise it. It was a pleasure to live in a time you paid man (and woman!) a visit to give us a taste of a highly sought after double edge sword so many died for. Freedom is the mostly highly sought after thing throughout all of humanities history besides food and water. We're lucky we got to see freedom by living in this time period, but those before and after us are not so lucky ones. Well everything, freedom or not has it's advantages and disadvantages. |

Socialism, or Marxist ideology, failed. Please Google "Eastern Bloc history".

Britain's police are slightly better, I emphasize slightly.

I have nothing against unions either. It's the whole idea of rent-seeking that I don't like. And the Employee Free Choice Act is a misnomer if there ever was one. However, if unions and management want to slug it out and draw up whatever contracts they best think fits their needs in a free market absent of government, I'm all for that.

They've also enjoyed the nice security blanket provided by US troops and paid for by US taxpayers. It might be a good idea to redeploy our soldiers in Europe back home. That may get the Germans, and other European nations, thinking. It'll at least sharpen their minds a bit.

Uh huh, respect for private property and free enterprise is war and crisis. Holding up such a sign while throwing stones and bottles just shows everyone how much of a douche the average German leftist is. |
