Gyeonggi-do is the area surrounding Seoul and that includes rural areas.
What's it like in the rural areas?
Is it easy to get bus access to Greater Seoul or at least to the nearest subway line allowing access to the capital?
What are the schools like there for treatment of foreigners?
It appears my choices are limited to "rural areas" of Gyeonggi-do or to go to Busan, Daegu, Ulsan (i.e. bigger cities away from Seoul)
Any information is appreciated.

I taught one semester just east of Seoul, near Icheon. It was fine. Bus service into Seoul was good. If I remember, there was a bus every half hour or less. There were also buses to a number of other cities. In general, you'll find the inter-city bus service in Korea to be excellent.

I was in a tiny town and it was OK, but I thought the people less friendly than in the even smaller town I'd lived in the year before that was over between Daegu and Masan.

It was my impression that the level of students was rather low--the parents of bright kids sent them to the cities for a better education, so the overall quality was lower than expected.

It's my advice to advoid technical/industrial schools if you can.

Gyeonggi is massive area and has many different places they could put you. Even what qualifies for the rural allowance can vary dramatically.

I live in a small village, there is a bus to Seoul every 20-30 mins.

Some mates live 30 mins away in a decent sized town but are still considered rural.

Another girl lives literally in the middle of nowhere. There are always buses but it may take a while longer to get to Seoul.

People are friendly here.

Groceries are more expensive than Seoul.

CHECK YOUR GAS SUPPLY. I have no choice but LPG and my gas bill for a one room in winter runs close to half a million won. (This is enbtirely normal as city gas is cheap but LPG is ridiculous).

Some recruiters are trying to find people for certain schools. If u get a def location you can get more specifiic info.

The rural areas are great,if you are not a city person who needs a lot of ammenities. Public transportationis one of the strong suits of Korea and you would not have to worry about going into seoul.

Schools vary and a lot depends on how you treat them. If you want to be near Seoul then go to the rural areas, it is healthier and you can always go into the BIG city.

Wtf? That's nuts.

My winter monthly bills are 140,000 (including apt fees). Summer is 70,000. Dropping a quarter of your paycheck on gas is ridiculous.

I'd pull a runner on the first one. Can't imagine paying 4-5 months of that.

It sounds to me like a recruiter told you that you can't get a job anywhere else.. You can always try a new recruiter.. What kind of job are you looking for?

When you are old like me and lack experience you aren't considered "Seoul material". I could also go to Daegu, Daejeon or Busan but maybe being in a rural area within an hour of Seoul wouldn't be too bad. Hard to know for sure.
Appreciate the replies.
