She has a bachelors degree in secondary education (ESL specialization), and she has passed the national teachers exam in the Philippines. She is currently teaching Korean students full time at a center in Cebu. Her salary there is just over $300 per month
She'll be moving here in late summer. |

I thought SMOE hired Filipinos if they were certified teachers (which I guess she is). They don't get much money. Wait, maybe it was EPIK. Well, I would swear it was one of those.
Doubt she'd get a hagwon gig. |

I don't know when in 2009 but qualified teachers from India, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines wil be able to teach in public school. I'm guessing it's starting from the next intake in September.
Requirements for the non-native teachers, however, will be much stricter than those for native speakers. Non-native speakers have to hold a bachelor's degree or above in English studies and teaching licenses from their countries. L.

These are Filipina teachers who come to Korea as teachers, not those who come as dependents. Those married to Koreans can also work. |
