Can anyone give me names of some good recruiters that deal with placements in private schools (hakwons)?
Also, has anyone ever had to sign a form with a recruiter saying they would only deal with them, no one else???
thankyou Smile

My recruiter was really helpful. Not sure if they deal just with hagwons. But I'm currently at a pretty sweet private school (not a hagwon). Try ETJ Korea, my recruiter's name was Scott.

My younger cousin worked with an agency called Canadians With Seoul, and she couldn't say enough nice things about them. They are 'foreigners' and were really good to her and really well-placed to inform her about the practical realities of living and working as an expat in Korea. She was particularly impressed by their frank acknowlegements of the "imperfections" of the ESL business in Korea and by the fact that they didn't disappear into the woodwork the moment she signed her contract.

I thought the same thing until this morning, when I had to make a trip to the police station to make a statement about ETJ Korea, and Scott. Turns out they were unlicensed and they're all getting charged!

Personally had good dealings with Footprints (as both a teacher being hired and an administrator doing the hiring).

I would recommend Rowan from ESL Planet. Very straightforward, honest and reliable.

I would NOT recommend Gone2Korea. The Korean representative, Sharon was very nice and helpful at first, but basically fell off the face of the Earth with no warning. Kirk who I believe goes back and forth between Toronto and Korea seems really helpful at first too, but will tell you exactly what you want to hear just to get you to sign a contract. I had a HORRIBLE experience with this recruiting company and would really encourage people to look elsewhere.

I have a recruiter from ETN Korea who's name is Scott. Is it ETN or ETJ? Are they two different people. I think ETN is a licensed recruiter, he seems to be very helpful.

Park English was the first recruiter I tried in January, but after I was done with the initial application process, they told me what documents I needed, said someone would be in touch soon, and then abruptly stopped taking my calls and replying to my e-mails. I called and sent them a few e-mails to them in February which told them that I had my documents ready, and it was as if they fell off of the face of the Earth. I was even unable to reach the US-based consultant.

Unless you're going to go with public schools, apply with as many recruiters that seem reputable as you can. From what I've read here, if you apply for public schools with more than one recruiter, EPIK, et al. will automatically reject your application.

Make sure you read the school contract thoroughly with all of the recruiters. Virtually all of them that I've dealt with will tell you that it's better than it really is, and will gloss over the more negative details.

Yeah he was by far the best recruiter I have ever spoken to. I must have spoken to about 30 over the years! But, as my post said, they are busted. When I was in the police station I had a wee look at the case file sitting on the detective's desk (he didn't seem to mind haha) and there were at least 20 teachers they wanted to speak to regarding ETJ. They were asking if I knew them and where they worked etc. The rotters.
