After spending too much time in classy bars in Korea that I'd never frequent back home, I'm really hankering for a night of drinking in a good dive bar.

Cheap drinks, cheaper women, surly staff, dirty bathrooms, music so bad that it's good...yet all of this in a way that makes the place charming and magical.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm sure there are a few on the hill in Itaewon, but I'd be particularly interested if anyone knows of any good, dank, dark and dirty bars that are outside of Itaewon and frequented by Koreans.

Cheers!

The Loft also has free drinks for ladies on Saturday night... somehow it's still dead, though it often picks up late night.

Tin-pan is not a dive bar, it's a meat market. There's a difference.

"The BAR" or "Underbar" out in Shinchon/Hongdae. I can't give you directions because you'll get lost. Just ask around, most people have heard of it. Great times there!

Yeah, I think Tinpan is a little different from what I had in mind, but thanks for the suggestions so far...

What did the US soldiers do at Tinpan? I see there is now a sign barring them from entering the bar. I went there the other night and noticed some changes since I was last there a few months ago. Plastic drink glasses have replaced glass ones. The sink in the mens room has been torn from the wall. The soldiers must have had a show and tell night. Laughing
