I lost my US license and I've been gone from my home-state too long to get a replacement (They want a new pic, adn I have to ask in person). I can't get the international drivers license because you have to send in a photocopy of your US license.

I want to get a license in Korea.

Has anyone done this?
How much does it cost?
What do you have to take with you?
Is there any particular visa you need? (F2, E2, or will a tourists visa work?)
Is it difficult?

This won't help you, but, to get a Korean liscense, the easiest way is to bring your North American liscense to the Korean liscense office, give them 10,000 won and do an eye test. Seeing as you don't have your American liscense, I don't know what the procedure is.

Thank you!

Hmmm... the 6 months residency might be a problem. I have been living in Korea, renewing my visa every year w/ an E2, for 3 years. ATM I'm on a tourist visa waiting for my F2. I've been here, just... I won't show up as a "resident" exactly for 6 months immediately before.

Much appreciated.

Your best bet would be to call the Global center and ask them. They've always been pretty helpful when I've called them in the past. Good luck.

The IDL is not valid without a valid license. It's not a permit itself, but rather a recognized translation of your home license. Another issue is that if you're here long-term (as in one year or more), you're required to have a Korean license to drive.
