The video game ROMs site makes the popup come on my screen too. It's got 2 links, one to National Police Agency and the other to the gaming board on illegal gambling.

Looks like something do with online gambling being illegal with the National Police Agency enforcing the law while the gaming website on the right link is info on gambling gaming regulations. Maybe the Korean server assumed the foreign video game site could be online gambling? Many of us are getting these warnings for no apparent reason, but the problem is they don't allow us translate as the Hangul is not translatable due to being flash or just pictures on a page.

Since you have a website address and it comes up, you can show it to a Korean who speaks English and ask why. The illegal gaming warnings I got were different than this, yet, I don't even do games or gamble. I couldn't recall the warning I got as it had no address and then the pop up disappeared when I clicked on it, but went to a site obviously about gambling being illegal.

I finally got curious and typed it out in google..
only the top part.
I've had it at all random times.
I got it when I clicked on a banner ad on naver for a web game from germany called tavian.

I didn't get it when I tried to go to that site btw.

Yep, it has to do with illegal gambling games, but the video game and torrents sites aren't blocked. I got a similar warning over mininova one night about a month ago and created a thread on this topic. Someone else last week created a thread on this same topic too.

I have had no problems on the private sites I use to download torrents (tv, movies, and ds games). I wouldn't be downloading for TPB or MN. That is kinda stupid Smile

So then, can you recommend some private sites? I usually download from TPB, but ever since the bust I have been apprehensive.

There hasn't been a pirate bay 'bust' since 2006. The latest incident has to do with the individuals that run the website, the website is was not the focus of the court case. TPB is as safe or as unsafe as any other tracker, it just depends who is on the torrent collecting IP addresses.

I read yesterday in the Herald that Korea was removed from the IPR Intellectual Property Rights US watch list for addressing internet piracy.

Is Korea fixing to bust all of us for downloading English TV and movies?

I didn't do illegal downloading at home, I rented Netflix DVD delivery service. I don't see any other way to get movies. It's like if you lived on a space station, moon base, or Mars colony, you'd have to download material from home via long distance internet connection, becuase they're are no local services catering to your needs. And the astronauts do have internet, movies, and TV shows from home downloaded on the ISS, but NASA would be paying for that content instead of those living in space using MN or PB. Planet K lacks in many ways in that it's not set up for aliens so the aliens make do with what they got.

Is it illegal to download TV shows that aired on public stations back home that are free? I know commercials sponsor or pay for the programming, but downloaded episodes have the commercials cut out. I wouldn't get anything out of the commercials other than being teased as I'm not in their market to buy their products.

That analogy is awful. The fact you can rent English movies and TV shows from numerous DVD rental shops around Korea and that you can use online movie services in Korea makes that point mute. If you really wanted to watch your shows perfectly above board you could. I don't want to spend all that money on them myself so I pirate, a horse is a horse at the end of the day.

As for the talk of Korea wanting to bust all the English teachers for downloading TV shows... I think they first need to address the large amount of pirate DVD stalls dotted all over Korea and Seoul.
