I've been at this elementary school for about 8 months now and we don't have a text book. I simply make my own lesson plans.

I'm thinking I may need two books. One for third and fourth, and one for fifth and sixth.

For you EXPERIENCED teachers out their who've used a variety of different books, can you recommend a few good ones.

I'm going to Seoul and I want to narrow down my search.

While I haven't actually employed the program, a number of schools in my area use the Let's Go series. From what I've seen it is a fairly good program for elementary students. Most importantly the students attitude toward the books is positive.

Up and Away is another good series

I read a lot of recommendations for English Time, but I truly don't understand why. The phonics sections are okay, but the second lesson of the preschool level, Magic Time, thinks it's important for students to learn words like "tiptoe" and "dive." The later books seem really scattered, like the lesson called At the Pet Shop in which the main dialog is something like "I can't find my mother." "What does she look like?" etc. So avoid those I guess.

Why would you need a day off? Kim And Johnson's is open on saturdays.

there are Kyobo bookstores and others throughout K - you don't necessarily have to come here - what city are you in/close to?

btw, the bookstores here are open on Sat and Sun

There are 2 books I like

"Can you believe it" by Huizenaga
and
"Worldview 1" by Micheal Rost

I've never really cared for the Can You Believe It series..it's good side work, but not as a main book...

I mispoke, we do have an English book but I discarded it after the very first day of class. Low and behold...it's "English time" and it suuuuccks.

It's not challenging at all and my third graders could learn that book in about a week.

Here's an example:

"sh! Be quiet!"

"Sorry."

"That's okay."

That's supposed to be the dialogue for an entire lesson.


Weeeeaaaak!

I'll let you all know what I think is a good book based on your suggestions.
