I asked this question on another thread and got pointed to the guy who started the official motorcycle/scooter thread but I haven't had any joy from him.

So, anyone know of a decent mechanic in Anyang? By decent I mean reasonably friendly, not scared of foreigners and not likely to rip me off and most importantly knows his stuff . I recently moved up here with my CB400 and it's crying out for the carbs to be cleaned and an oil change before I get into any big summer riding.

Cheers for any info... Smile

Go find the raised highway and follow it towards Lotte mart. After you get to Lotte, while heading up the hill still under the highway make a left at the intersection after Lotte. Follow that road and make your first right. 30 meters up on the left is a bike shop I go there all the time. No english though but a good guy.

Ah, oops. Sorry 'bout that.

I'm around, but these days a little busy -- I haven't checked my PMs in a while.

Where in Anyang are you located? When I need some service done to my bike, I head over to a shop in Gunpo. Yours being a Japanese bike, you don't really want to take to the regular mom and pop shop for anything other than an oil change (and even then, make sure you bring your own filter).

If you're coming towards Geumjong station from sanbon, you'll hit a T intersection right at the station. Make a right, and keep going past the overhead ramp. Keep going a bit further and it'll be a small shop on your left - make a u-turn. You'll recognize it by the foreign bikes in the front.

There's also a shop just past anyang-1-bon-ga (if you're heading towards Seoul on the main street there) on your right. Again, you'll see some foreign bikes out front.

I don't know about the CB400s (they're a bit more common here than my bike) -- but I found that for anything more significant (chains sprockets, body/suspension work, etc..) - it's best to ebay the parts if you can find them online for under $200 (or $150 to be safe -- to avoid the stupid import tax) instead of having the shop order it, it'll be a bit cheaper -- especially if you find used parts that you can't find here.

Also, it may be worth it to just take your bike to a Honda dealer (I like the one in Gangnam - near coex). They do a good job, are professional, and have all the right equipment and parts. Prices are actually not terrible (It's 36,000 or so for an oil/filter for my bike with their synthetic oil).

Hope it helps, and if you have any further questions, feel free to post here or in the other monster thread.

Here's where the shops are:

Hey thanks a lot, sorry didn't mean to bag you on my last post.

Think I'll hit up the Gunpo shop on Monday. You're right about ebay I got stung a bit last year buying a new chain through a shop. I always thought the Honda dealers would be just too expensive though...

Cheers for the Daum link as well that's awesome! (works fine in google chrome btw)
