|
|
Hello again, all!
Ok, so I had had another thread up, but deleted it, because I got the C-4 visa info sorted out. As is typical for me, my situation is unique, so what happens with my C-4 is not like everyone - and possibly anyone - else's.
However, that still leaves the 2nd, and now more pressing part:
When do the summer camps (1st session, for those Unis doing 2 back-to-back) begin?
If you are at a decent school (by this, I mean a reputable program, where the pay matches the expected work ratio or better; e.g. - high work/high pay camp, low work/mid-pay camp, etc.), or know of one, please post up WHEN the camp and/or applications start, or provide a link.
As for me, I'd much prefer one starting at the beginning of June, and running til mid-July. (And a high-end work/pay camp is fine - I'm just coming back to work & tie up some loose ends.) Anyone with info on one, please pass it along (I would hope after 12 years on this site someone would throw me something, if they know one), either here in the thread or in a PM.
Regards!
Glen
PS - as the subject implies, I will post up any info I can gather - some of my friends in Korea are already looking to see what they can find out. Feel free to do the same, and we can hopefully keep this all in one thread.

While we're on this subject, if you are considering a summer camp on a C-4 visa, please remember that every year teachers are NOT TOLD that they may be forced to pay a much higher rate of tax on their earnings (actually, by Korean law, I believe they are supposed to pay it) than E-2 teachers on a 1 year contract.
They find this out when they get their paycheck on the day they go home.
Be sure to ask about taxes and NET payment if you plan on doing a camp! |

Glen,
I have never heard of any camps starting in June. The reason being the kids aren't out of school until July.
Would a C-4 allow you to do a summer business course at one of those training centers? Those jobs pay more than summer camps are a lot more professional. I used to see those types of jobs posted at worknplay, but not sure if they still are since that site changed a bit since last year.
Also to anyone reading this thread: if you have contacts at SLI let Glen know. They run a lot of summer camps and pay half decent for a camp (1mil a week). |

Bass ~ thanks for that extra tidbit. Does it also depend on the person's nationality, and how they are classified, too? Or do temps all get lumped into the same sort of cookie-cutter, because the contracts are less than a year?
Mr. Pink ~ Thanks for stopping in! I actually still receive the WnP newsletter (a holdover from the clubbing/party promo/events stuff we used to do), so i think I may still have a copy there. I'll pop off an e-m to one of their recruiters & see.
C-4 is a catch-all for a number of different short-term work visas. A training center or other short-term job would be fine; I just am planning on NOT being there for a year, as my cats & the bulk of my stuff are here, and I'd like to return back in fairly short order. I'll give a look to the SLI site, as well, and see if they mention anything. |

The SLI site seems down just now (but it may also be a glitch from my ISP; I was getting the 'blank page' bug from trying to use the search feature here at Dave's earlier ), but I managed to track down contact info via Facebook. I will post up anything useful/of interest here when they (hopefully) get back to me in a few days.
I am still having trouble finding specifics on the C-4 tax stuff - anyone know that offhand???
2 other posters have PMed me, stating that their Unis are tightening up the Summer School requirements - no E-2 crossovers to be recruited; only current teachers, or C-4s, or certain of the F-# types. But no E-2s, C-3s 'in process,' etc.
Keep it coming - here in thread, or via PM, and I will post up what I can share.
