|
|
A diplomat and friend at my embassy has offered me a temporary job (one week) managing a delegation visiting Korea next month. I really want to accept this job but it means I have to get out of a week of teaching?
Any ideas how to put this to my boss?
What if I offer to find the substitute teacher?
Should I offer to pay the sub out of my own pocket? Would my boss still pay me my normal monthly salary if I did this?
I work at an afterschool program at a public school. |

It's illegal if you're on an E-2 and your boss can have you deported and fined. |

If that's true, you may have to come up with another reason to take off work (with a sub to smooth the way), and hope the embassy guy doesn't know the rules either. |

It's even more complicated than that. A sub would also have to get permission from Immigration to work at your school.
There's a lot of paperwork involved in getting permission for two different people to work temporarily at a place that isn't their assigned job.
It is highly unlikely a boss would accept this idea, let alone Immigration. |

This all reminds me of a Rolling Stones song- "You can't always get what ya want, but if ya try sometimes, you get what ya need." |
