I just got the schedule for our three day trip. I really hope this isn't going to be all about how Dokdo is Korea and this is why... type of stuff.

Day 1

2:30-3:30 The Forum opening ceremony and Orientation

4 - 5:40 Visit to Dokdo Museum and Dokdo Observatory

7-8:20 Special Lecture on Dokdo (I)

8:30 - 9:30 Meeting with middle school students in Ulleung county

Day 2

8:30 - 12 Tour to Dokdo-related historical sites in Ulleungdo

1-5 Tour to Dokdo

7 - 8:20 Special lecture on Dokdo (II)

8:30 - 9:30 Meeting with high school students in Ulleung county

Day 3

9:20 - 12 Tour to Haengnam Lighthouse

12 - 2 Free time

Then we get to write a 4 page paper about our trip due before May 29!

I'm more interested in Ulleungdo and not Dokdo.... hope we get to see some of the island. This sounds like a Dokdo - Foreigner Publicity Stunt.

Slightly off topic,

but I found the most hilarious sticker plastered onto the window of a bus.

It said written in bold big white letters superimposed over the island

"Attention foreigners, Dokdo belongs to Korea"

and subtexted: "That is all"

You're going to get paraded around and given Dokdo is Korea T-shirts and Korean flags to wave while being filmed saying "Dokdo belongs to Korea" and photographed as well. It's total propaganda. I would refuse it if I were you.

A huge Tuna fish. There's are Tuna buffet style Sushi bars all over Korea named Dokto. With a huge picture of the Island. I looks like Chicken head Island in Krabi Thailand.

No, sadly, I'm not amongst the chosen few. And to think, I fell ill on the day of last year's Gyeongnam waegook parade to Tongyeong and also fell ill on the day of this year's Gyeongnam waegook workshop. Given my record I'm afraid I might fall ill on the day this one starts if I were asked to come along, too. All pretty odd for a guy who's never taken a sick day at work in almost four years, but there you go.

It's all so silly. I wouldn't feel comfortable about engaging in political propaganda either. A dispute over this set of small rocks that are actually closer to Korea. I can see Korea's point of view, but it's obvious they are Korea's rocks as Korea occupies them. If they were Japans rocks, then Japan occupy. I guess this is Japan's way of teasing Korea to communicate, "Hey, we still don't like you as it's always been, but it's a pleasure doing business with you as we've been doing in recent times so we won't fight right nor invade right now."

Dispute over fishing rights? Both Japan, Korea, and China love fish and depend on the sea as their major food source due to their lands not producing food like the lands of milk and honey familiar to us. I know China is encroaching on Korea's fishing zone in the West Sea too, but can't do anything about it so Korea has to take a loss on the last zone rich in crabs.

Why go?
Score brownie points?
Witness a dispute close up?
Be photographed acting like a stupid white lackey?
