|

Can anyone give me a general idea of how much it costs to move from Korea to the U.S.? I'm trying to decide whether or not it's worth trying to bring some of our good furniture, etc., along with us.
We aren't actually moving until next year, but we're visiting America in a couple of months. I was thinking we could bring as much stuff with us as possible this time, but I just saw that now most major airlines are charging for checked baggage. This would mean that in order for my husband and I to check two bags a piece, it would cost us $560 extra. Would it be less expensive to just wait and ship it over? Also, is it very risky to ship somewhat fragile items?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! |

By boat. Get .5/.3/.25 whatever of a container, throw all your junk in there and send it. Done. Information on pricing is out there because expats are sent here and back home by their companies every week. Google is where you will find the information. |

I did try Google, but in order to get pricing info I'd have to send the companies lots of personal information. I'm not ready to request an estimate, so that's why I posted this message. I'm just looking for people who have experience with this and can tell me what kind of price range I'm looking at. I've never done this before so I'm just looking for general information. |

I'm fairly certain that international flights allow you to check 2 suitcases per person and 2 personal carry on items.
Honestly, sending furniture home sounds like an enormous hassle. Sell it here and then purchase new items when you go back to save yourself a headache. |

Yeah, they did allow two checked bags, but as of very recently, major airlines such as Delta, American Airlines, Continental, Northwest, and United to name a few, changed their requirements.

For Delta international flights this is $50 every time you check in! They're even starting to charge for meals!
You're probably right about the furniture. I just paid so much for it and will have had it for such a short amount of time that I hate to let it go! |
