We had dinner with my wife's extended family last night. Late in the evening, we did a Korean ceremony to say hello to the grandmother/grandfather who had passed away. That was all fine, but I noticed one thing that was out of place. While pouring the wine and bowing, I noticed that the lighter used to light the candles and incense was an advertising lighter from a SEXY BAR! Laughing

I kept watching, wondering which male might pick up the lighter and put it in his pocket, but instead, it was taken away to the kitchen on a small table with a bowl of wine. The wives and daughters were cleaning the dishes and putting away the food.

Immediately after the ceremony, I whispered to my wife, "Hey, go look at that lighter on the table over there...." She walked over, saw it, and came back with a huge shock/grin on her face.

In joking with my wife after the night was over, I noted that her uncle, who lives where the ceremony was, had once told me he and his wife are day-traders of stocks and work at home. I also noted that the only computer in the place was an oldish one in the daughter's bedroom. Hmmm.... now, if I were a day trader, and my income depended on it, I'd have a nice high dollar 2-monitor setup myself. Laughing

Probably not, but it made for a laugh.

Probably they don't have the cash to set up the monitors.

And he probably got that lighter when he was out looking for hookers.

Daytrading probably isn't the most lucrative field to have been a part of this past year!

He was a former upper-level manager of a chaebol division in years past.

If you go to any bar, hof, pocha, etc. and ask for a lighter, you'll get one with an ad for a massage parlor or place like that.

I'm a bit scared of the online trading accounts. My brother got into one of those (he's a laywer, by the way), and when he wanted to sell everything and actually get his money back out and in his own bank, it was like pulling teeth. It took him quite a while, and my father said he had to throw hints about taking legal action. Trying to get his money out of the thing was a bad enough experience to scare him away from doing it. I heard all of this through a 3rd party (my dad) so I don't know the details well. This was one of the more well-known and respected online traders in the USA.
