| So my school has decided to do some sort of week-long camp in the afternoons. This means that some teachers (myself included, lucky me) leave school early and go to another site. I won't get any extra classes this week, so I'm losing money, and we don't get paid extra for this camp. And this really gets me - they aren't reimbursing us for our transportation costs. WTF? |

| I would just ask, "If you're not reimbursing transportation, you will either have to drive me, or I'm walking there. I'll see you when I get there." |

| Have they put the second site on your ARC? If not, it's illegal and you can refuse to go there. |

| If you're in the EPIK program, then you don't actually work for the school. You work for the local BoE and they can send you where they want. |

Another great bit of advice from Daves!
If this is a one off thing, just get on with it and do it! So you might lose a weeks overtime!
Or you could start demanding things and damage a possibly great relationship with your school for the sake of a weeks OT!
They maybe asked you to do the camps because they think you are one of the better teachers, and want the camps to go as smoothly as possible, or .......................... |

| If its just a week just do it. But they should reimburse you for travel expenses. |

Are you teaching or learning at this camp? If you're going to classes, they don't have to pay you or reimburse you.
If you're teaching, and they're not paying, why are you saying yes? |

If this is not public school it is likely illegal and since you are not getting paid for it you should stick up for yourself. Sure it may sour relationships, but so does not knowing how to say 'no'. This can lead to further demands and overtime without pay. If it is illegal and you are caught you are the culprit not the school, then you will be out of pocket. It's really your call about how refusing to do this would affect your working relationship. Often it can show strength, and if they have any respect for you then they will listen. Or you could just bullshit and say a couple of your friends were deported for the doing the same thing as they're asking of you.
Public schools do offer a transport stipend even for meetings outside of the school. Usually around 20,000won a day. |
