Hey there. I have 2 after school classes per week, but only one or two students show. Any ideas or websites on good one-to-one lessons. |

This site does (never used them so don't know if they are good). Go up to the "Stuff For Teachers" part and then to the "Idea Cookbook". |

One or two students? Can I steal your job?
With one or two students, there's basically no way to be unproductive. They have to communicate with you the entire time in English, no matter what you're doing. And they won't be nearly as terrified as they are in front of a room full of other students.
I've found that something as simple as doing a small bit of reading together, when you've got that much attention to spare, is really helpful actually. You work through it word by word, then read it again, ask questions to summarize making them use the vocabulary they've just learned to answer them, and then, hopefully, it leads into actual conversation where they are not just parroting, but having to think in English to explain their ideas. They won't get nearly as bored and restless as an entire class can get doing this kind of thing. |
