Where and how does one apply for their pension refund when leaving the country for good? I'll be leaving in August and already have my one-way ticket. I read on another thread that your place of employment files for you and then deposits this into your bank account. Is this accurate? If not, anyone have know-how in this department? |

How did you even get enrolled in that? I would have thought that it is only for members of the Korean Teachers' Union since it sounds like a private plan. |

Many college instructors get enrolled in this as it gets schools out of having to pay severance and in some cases even contributing, but I still want to get my contributions (in addition to some government change) back before I leave. My school is also going to match my payments even though I've only been there two years. Nice guys with deep pockets. |

Is there really no one on Dave's that has successfully received their pension from the teacher's pension fund? I find that hard to believe... |

I received it once, so far, when changing from one private school to another. I would've preferred to have let it ride, but I don't think the first place wanted me to get into the "five-year plan" that easily. Anyway, my severance papers included me having to sign a doc which stated that I wanted my contributions, up-to-that-point, reimbursed in full. Basically, the school did it for me. Can't remember exactly how long it took. The national to the private only took two days for deposit, but I think the private may've taken a couple of weeks. I had it deposited into my regular account here in Korea. If you have additional "government change" due you, I recommend that you talk to your people about that. If they can't do anything for you, go directly to your local nps office. |

Thanks denverdeath, that's exactly what I needed to know. I'll make sure my uni files for me and deposits everything before I'm off. I don't want to have to try and do the goose-chase from outside Korea. |
