I changed schools/cities since last year, so I will have to deal with a new bank. It's a small town kinda place, so I expect they won't even know how to do this. I want to be prepared before I go, so I know I will need a pay slip from the school.

I tried explaining to my KT the the bank requires a pay slip in order for me to send money home, but they can't seem to understand what I'm talking about.

My KT asked why I don't just use an ATM and leave the money in a Korean bank. Well, if it were only that simple I surely would do just that.

She seemed shocked to learn that foreigners can't get international bank cards. (or at least not without great difficulty)

Of my foreign friends in Korea, I know of only 2 who were able to obtain these and they had to fight and argue for about a month with the bank to get them.

I think my school may think that I don't trust them and that's why I'm asking. Why does everything have to be so difficult? |

				| I had this problem with a small-town school as well, but I told them I absolutely needed it for tax reasons in America and suddenly it was ok. Don't worry about telling the truth about stuff, just give them a reason they can understand and explain to their accountant. |

				| Asking your school for a payslip every month has other benefits. I started asking every month (for 'tax reasons') after they started to pay me late (they kept forgetting). Now, my pay's always on time. Sweet. |

				| If they refuse to give you a payslip, they are cheating you. Or want to have power over you. Either way, they're screwing you. |

Tell them you need it (and if they're playing dumb, tell them what income/deductions it should include; spell it out) for:

1) the bank

2) taxes for back home

Tell them the bank is asking for it and the IRS (or whoever) is asking for it. You need it. Give it.

Be firm, but not rude. |
