hello.

i am a F4 visa holder and i sent my resumes in to a few recruiters and got a reply from a recruiter which i believe is the main one for Chung Dahm Learning in the US.

since i didnt want to deal with more than one place, i just decided to go through the whole process with the recruiter and see what happens. well, everything went smoothly, as i had most documents prepared in advanced and did well on the interview. i just got my offer last week and it was 2.2mil salary + housing or $27/hr - however, they did not include the location of the school in the agreement that i have to sign. is this normal?? also, when i look at job postings on this forum, and the other forums, it looks like a lot of the jobs offer 2.5mil to 2.8mil + housing in Seoul so this is what i was expecting. has anyone negotiated their contract and got higher pay?

You need a few special qualities to hire on with CDL.

1. A good sense of adventure. They won't tell you where you are assigned until after/during the training week and they've had a chance to assess your teaching abilities.

2. A strong work ethic and dedication to your job.

3. A whole lot of faith in their system.

wow. ok, well i can live with #2 and probably #3, but i dont know about #1.

i guess i will have to tell the recruiter i cant do it.

what do you guys think of the pay?? i know most posts i saw were around 2.1-2.3mil, but i did see a lot that were 2.5-2.8mil + housing in Seoul.

I think that this is a job like McDonalds. Can you handle a Mcjob where there is a strict system in place and the employee has to follow strict rules all for the good of the company.

F-4 visa holders can make alot more money not doing regular old E-2 jobs...search around until you find something aimed at f-4...or just teach privates for $40-$60+ an hour.

I've heard of quite a few people getting denied by CDI after they went through the training process.

If you're willing to take the risk of getting turfed because they didn't like something about you during training, then be my guest.

Getting turfed probably won't have anything to do with your teaching abilities, but more to do with your image.

It would suck to come all the way over here only to be denied by your employer a week later.

From what I remember, there are some sketchy things about CDI's contract too. Be careful.

Proverbs, if they sent you a Memorandum of Understanding along with the contract, it's for the campus they are putting you at. It should say so right in the first line.

they pay you depending your experience too.
you may want to negotiate for higher pay and cite other listings for 2.5mil+ to help your case
2.2mil is pretty good for starting if you have no experience.
i know some people who work for hakgwons, not CDI, and they get paid 1.8mil before pension, insurance, and whatever else the school takes out for.

do you receive the Memorandum of Understanding after you go through the training? because the agreement that i am supposed to sign and send back to them does not have any information on the location they are sending me.

this worries me a bit and i am thinking about applying elsewhere.
