Hello!
Anyways, I have to teach English Summer Camp for my school this summer at the end of July into August. I know its a little ways off, but I just found out from my co-teacher that they would like me to give them an advanced lesson plan guide for them to see. Which is easier said than done. Confused
I will be teaching for two weeks with a 4 hour teaching day. Two hours would be used teaching English to 3rd and 4th who would be grouped together, while 5th and 6th are together.
It's all on me on what I want to teach for two weeks, but the problem is that I don't know what to do for two weeks with a two hour teaching day for English camp! Also this is my first time doing a camp for English so I am more lost and confused and frustrated. So I am wondering if you guys can give me ideas, help me brainstorm, share, tell me what you have done, etc. The whole works. Very Happy
I would absolutely appreciate it!

Cooking (sandwiches / fake stuff)
Arts and crafts (my kids made fake pies/pizzas/cakes etc with tacky type of clay, origami, etc)-- Can be used to teach colors, instructions/steps..
Diaries-- structure, what to include, useful words, weather, mood/feelings
Pop songs
Clothing
Describing people

I started my job two weeks before Summer camp started. I was bricking it but its not very hard in the end. You need some project style lessons - Fantasy Island for example. Design an island, make a flag, tour guides etc. Anything where they need to draw and colour or make poster takes them FOREVER and will easily eat up the time. Design a new pop band, CD covers, promotional tours, listen to some recent songs with gap-fills.

And the King: MOVIE DAY. Sit there with a quiz for them on an easy film. Wall-E is perfect for that. Not too much dialogue etc.

Design a theme park, talk about food and design a new restaurant, POSTER/MAP/DRAWING is key.

Most of all, don't worry. It's actually quite fun if you don't take it too seriously and concentrate on games and activities. You don't even really need to teach too much, jus get them to use what they already know.

Good luck.

Once you do it you'll be amazed at how easy it is. As Michael_75 said, work coloring/cutting/folding/gluing/decorating projects as much as possible, as elementary kids love this, they unconsciously absorb more of the material, it's very little work for you and it will take them a long time. Don't stress too much about teaching them new things but rather reinforce what they know and get them to practice; or choose a topic with a lot of words they already know and in which they can get a lot of mileage out of few grammatical structures, and plan some long games.

For example, they know a lot of food and clothing words so it's easy to teach them some shopping phrases (I'll take it, that's too expensive, do you have it in blue? etc). From there you can keep them busy for hours making their own shops, doing roleplays, or making half the students be shopkeepers and the other half customers with a shopping list, and have them haggle over prices and/or shop around to find the best deal. Prize for the shopkeeper who made the most and the shopper who saved the most.
