hey all, i wanted some advice on this. i leave at the end of august, my coteacher brought up the plane ticket issue. she said i would buy it and the school would reimburse me. i was under the impression that the school would buy the home ticket, without all the "you buy first crap" like the ticket over here. so i asked a gepik rep friend who said the school could indeed buy the ticket if it was within 10 days of my last contract day. so it seems like the school could do either or. i really dont want to buy my ticket. i'd waste money transferring it back home, or be broke here for a month.

how can i get the school to just buy it and shut up about it. and does anyone know how that usually happens? who looks up the ticket, etc. and if they really won't budge and i have to buy it myself, how long will they take to pay me back? whats the procedure?

before i came here i was always assured with the fact that they would buy my ticket home and that would never be an issue. why would i need to buy it and then they pay me back when they could just buy it in the first place. any thoughts? advice? info? thanks!

Whatever people here suggest, in the end, it's your school who will decide. So, I'd suggest you to go see your co-teacher and expose your problem. Hopefully for you, you have a good relationship with your school, so things will be easy.

As with all things you'd like to get done in Korea, it's a good idea to do as much of the leg work as possible by yourself, and make it dead-simple for them to honor your request.

Contact Xanadu or Kangsan Travel or use another travel service in order to find and reserve the exact ticket you want. Ask them to send you the itinerary + total price and print them out.

Write down the agent's bank account info for payment via direct deposit, along with the total ticket price.

Highlight and circle the total ticket price on the itinerary as well.

Hand the package to your co-teacher, and point out the total ticket price and bank account info. If you're using a local travel agent, also write down their phone number to give to your teacher.

Ask your co-teacher to have the ticket price direct-deposited into the travel agent's account. If they say you should do this yourself and then get re-imbursed, just say you recently transferred money home, and have nothing left in your account.

thanks for the tips. and actually, i DID just send a boat load of money home and thats why i'm trying to get them to pay for it. they have to anyways. i'll call those people and see what they can set up. thanks all!

On a related note, what is the best day to fly back once you leave? and by best, I mean most expensive?

I really want to stick it to my school.... between being attacked by my first coteacher, getting a racist principal four months in who DOESNT want a blond white devil in the school, and various other headaches, I really dislike this school in almost every way. I asked about just receiving the cash for the ticket, but the second coteacher said absolutely no way.

So my next job starts within days of the end of my current contract. And if anyone knows other ways to stick it to them, I'm all ears. Maybe good ways for the principal to lose face right at the end?!?

'Kikomom' is on the money.

Some employers have recently changed the contract wording & terms, & now pay a cash settlement, in lieu of a flight ticket. Read the contract first.
